Yes, but, their environment is better suited. As in, smaller distances to travel, people want small cars, they want electric cars. Here, we drive farther, and we fantasize about electric cars. However, the reality is that consumers here won't buy them. There's also the other question of where the electricity is coming from? Coming from power grid? How is that power produced, and how much pollution does that generate? Dr J
@ThurzNite - green is gaining momentum and i think there will be a large market for electric cars in the US. they will buy them and will become mainstream eventually. i have no doubt.
as for where we will get the electricity.. i am hoping for affordable solar panels. if we can give out $3500-$4500 for clunkers.. they can give out money for solar panels too, same goes for electric vehicles.
advancement in technology, the greenness of america and the freemarkets will make solar panels and electric vehicles a reality.
this all electric revolution will be backed by the US government. GM is is government owned.. GM is advancing the volt. guaranteed they will have deals for buyers who buy all electric.
this will also help the US not be dependent on foreign oil.
and, even if worst case scenario we do produce a lot of pollution from providing energy from the grid, i am guessing it is much better than having fumes pouring out from exhausts 5 feet from our faces on the streets from our cars. betting a lot of people with allergies and asthma will find themselves feeling a lot better. sky will be much bluer too.
