Oh yea, I saw Andy Dick at the SantaMonica Mall parking structure today. He was with 2 kids. His complexion was like a parsnip and he was as tall as hell. He wasn't wearing his nerdy looking glasses.

  • optimal nutrition for lifting

i'm learning so many new things today. i think my physique is gonna start improving exponentially from here on out. i was going with my 2 rice bowl strategy w/ 50% veggies & carbs and 50% meats, sometimes even skipping the meats because i thought it was healthy! i was basically eating lots of rice, whole grain bread, pasta, veggies and fruits. this diet would prolly be healthy for a regular person, but because i work out often, i must adjust.

omg, i didn't know how important protein intake was for lifters. turns out i should be intaking .7 grams of protein per pound. so 155 x .7 = 108, so about 100 grams of protein per day. so, 33 grams per sitting. i learned the 1 5 10 15 25 rule, here. 1g of protein is included in every serving of fruits and veggies. 5g for each egg eaten, 10 for every cup of milk or yogurt, 15 for cup of beans (hope it includes natto) and 25g for 3-4 ounces of meats. dude, i can't believe i've been skipping my meats on some of my meals. from now on, proteins are a must in my meals, maybe 60%. i also recently learned that eggs and red meats are high in choline, a precursor for acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter vital for brain function such as memory and thinking. my protein increase might actually make me smarter too. :)

ok, so the protein problem is solved. i also learned today that high carb diets make it difficult to burn fat! when the body goes looking for energy when exercising, the first supply it taps into is the energy stored from carbohydrates - pasta, rice, bread. once that is depleted, it then goes to burn stored fats and protein. i was eating way too much carbs for getting ripped. "For, 12-15% body fat: 0.35g of carbs per pound of body weight per day. (site)" 155 x .35g = about 54g of carbs. since i was basically eating 50-50 carbs to protein. i'm gonna cut my carb intake by half. now, that i have this knowledge my body should be able to burn off fat quicker when i use the elliptical machine or run at almansor park. oh-hellzyea!

So far I have 108g from protein, 54g from carbs, what's that in calories? this site tells me...

    • 1 gram of carbohydrate = 4 calories
    • 1 gram of protein = 4 calories
    • 1 gram of fat = 9 calories
    • 1 gram of alcohol = 7 calories

Holy shit, alcohol has so many calories in it compared to carbs and protein, no wonder I was having trouble w/ my abs, ass, and thigh areas. (Luckily my 3 months of alcohol experimentation days are over. I consider red wine the gateway anti-oxidant to alcoholism) Good I stopped that, anyways... 108g of protein x 4 = 432 calories. 54g of carbs x 4 = 216 calories. 432 + 216 = 648 calories. wtf, isn't the average daily calorie intake about 2000 calories? ok, this site says.....

Approximate daily caloric intake needed to maintain desirable body weight

    Activity level

    Calories per pound

    Activity level

    Calories per pound

    Very sedentary

(movement restricted such as patient confined to house)

    13

    Moderate activity

    (weekend recreation)

    15

    Sedentary

(most Americans, office job, light work)

    14

    Very Active

(meets ACSM standards for vigorous exercise at least 3 times/week)

    16

wtf.. i would fall under the Very active category... 16 calories per pound. 16 x 155 = 2480 calories.... huh? haha

Ok, so there's some calories unaccounted for in the fruits, veggies, and fats that I will be consuming. Most foods contain some fats and that's 9 calories per gram. So, must be much. I prolly consume 2k calories somehow throughout the day. I'll just leave it at that. Fucking calorie counting......!

Hm, I think I'm gonna simplify this by forgetting about the calories for now. I never really wanted to become a calorie counter anyhow! :P My current diet of 2 bowls of veggies/carbs & meats is keeping me steady at about 155 pounds. This is for certain. So, as long as I lower my carbs and increase my protein in my current portion of food, my fat burning and lean mass should increase and keep me at about the same weight. I hope..... No, it will. So, that's it for my optimal nutrition for lifting update. Gonna implement this new knowledge starting right now! Wish me luck! Laterrrrs!

[edit .... omg... rice tastes go so good w/ food... i am so asian. how am i gonna go w/ only 1/4 to 1/2 bowl of rice per sitting from now on? shizacks!]

  • progress & changes.

    1. I run at Almansor Park now, 3 days a week. Instead of jogging all the way through, I learned that sprinting intensely for a few then, resting, then repeating cycle burns off more fat. So, that's what I'm doing now. I thought my abs would never come back again. I was beginning to doubt whether all those crunches at the gym were doing anything, but the cardio and fat burning are really helping. slowly, but surely.

    2. My posture has been bad lately, I need to start watching it again. I think after working out, my chest has come up so, when I have perfect posture it looks like I'm showing them off or something. But, I'll just have good posture anyways, f what other people think.

    3. I caught a cold a the past few days. I think it's from experimenting w/ all the new amino acids and stopping drinking all at once. My body went into shock. The good thing is tho, this time, when the canker sores came. I had the know-how to kill em off in 3 days. Usually takes weeks.

Here's the trick to kill of canker sores.

    1. L-lysine (an amino acid)
    2. hella Vitamin C
    3. Keep warm.
    4. Use Scope, mouthwash that stings and kills off germs. Swish it in your mouth for atleast 2 minutes after meals. The Canker sore can't spead too far if you do this. (MOST IMPORTANT & EFFECTIVE)

    4. I realized that my diet was too restricted. I am now way more lax about what I eat. As long as there isn't any refined sugar, refined flour, and MSG, and bad fats. I'm cool w/ it. The selection is so huge now. I can enjoy my foods once again.

    5. I've been experimenting w/ amino acids. They are pretty incredible. I'm gonna keep my combination stack a secret. :p

    6. I seem to be getting better in social situations. I'm pretty sure it's from my amino acid therapy. I feel more comfortable talking to people. The length and content of the conversations are still lacking, but since I feel more at ease when it's happening, it's a step forward for me.

    7. I downloaded the japanese drama called, Bambino! It's a story about a cocky chef who interns at a large hotel and get's his ass humbled back into bambi status. He works himself back up from the bottom and learns what it really takes to be a great Italian chef. I need to watch more of these newer japanese dramas. I had been stuck on Hajime no Ippo, (boxing animation) and Akagi (Mahjong animation) for the longest time.

    8. My highest score of Planet Puzzle League is now 113k, highest chain x58. :)

    9. New sites I've been frequenting/using...

    10. Oh yeah, I learned earlier that you can fix your eyesight w/o using surgery. It's called the Bates method. One person on a discusison forum said his eye sight improved after trying it. The validity of his methods are still under debate but some people claimed to have benefited from them, so maybe worth a look. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bates_method

    11. Oh yea another one I forgot, this is huge. I almost got into a car accident on the way home from work, like 2 days ago. I usually drive the 240sx so I get to be the first one riding onto the free way at the "one car per green" stops at the on-ramp. I forgot I was driving my mom's acura so I lost the race to this Buick. I felt hella frustrated so I decided to atleast win by getting onto the left lane first. The other driver sensed this one-man-upmanship from me, so he decided to drive really fast and stay in front. So we were kinda racing and weaving for a little bit, but he got blocked by a truck moving into his lane. I thought myself to be the winner and was filled w/ satisfaction for this victory, and stared at the Buick falling behind. But I was soon to be humbled when I look back in front of me, the traffic was totally stopped!!! The cars didn't seem too close, but my speed was so fast, the parked cars were getting close quick! Next thing I know the cars are like right in front of my face. I pressed on the breaks as hard as I can, I thought I was gonna start screeching but luckily my mom's car had anti-lock breaks. Still, this wasn't enough, the car was trying it's best to stop, but it was too late, I was gonna hit the Lexus truck in front of me. I braced and imagined how the crash would be like. I was ready to hit. But luckily the lady driving the Lexus had hella good reaction and technique. She sped her car off the side of the road and avoided the collision. Her bumper was so close I could read her license plate, "QU DOTRE" I wonder what this means, it has spiritual significance to me. I looked on the internet but couldn't figure it out, maybe it's Latin. Anyway, this lady driver really saved both of us and gave me a chance to learn a lesson about road rage before it really killed me. I'm never gonna race or try to beat or one-man-upmanship anyone on the road ever again. It's not worth it. I was really gonna crash. It's really not just my life and safety that's at stake, it's the other drivers around me who are gonna be fucked over. Today, when parking at the "one car per green" , I let the other driver go first my parking my car way behind signaling that they are going first. I'm gonna make this a habit. No more road rage. I'm so thankful I got out of this one w/o harming anyone. I'm so thankful for Qu Dotre's reaction time. She really rocked w/ that manuever.
