Los Angeles Central Library.
10W>101N>exit, right Grand > right 5th > left Flower > parking structure on the left > guess where I'm at. (edit..title gives it away huh? hahaha i crack myself up)
I've lived in Los Angeles for 30 years now and this was the first time I entered the...
Los Angeles Central Library.
( didn't take this photo. courtesy: google images)

1st hour of parking is $1.00 . So, you know I finished by business there quickly. It's $1.00 flat rate if you enter the parking structure there after 3pm. But I got there around 1:30pm. Saturdays and Sundays are also $1.00 flat. Nice, it's cheaper than Santa Monica Public Library.
This library is HUGE. If you've been there, you know what I'm talking about. The building reminds me of LAX or a trainstation. The movement of people there is fast paced like they are headed somewhere for business. Multicultural environment. I never saw that many black people in my life. No Damon Wayans today.
I've been sheltered by always being in Alhambra, Monterey Park, and Irvine. My highschool - Loyola High School on Venice was in a shady area, but even there, it was all white people, all boys too. ugh. double ugh.anyways, the building has several floors, like 5-6-7? I thought it to be a slight inconvenience to have the books classified by floors. If you wanted a history book and and science book, you would have to travel several floors to get both books. sux right? I bet they could fit the whole library on 2 floors, but I think they are going for extravagance. They have art work hanging from above the escalators and all library areas are kept clean and uptone. The DVD area, is like freaking Blockbuster.
I sware the collection there is so huge and the layout is like entering a video store. I think though I was most impressed by the scenery that awaits when you walk out the library on all sides. 5th, Hope, etc... as you walk out, you see opulent style garden & fountains w/ HUGE business buildings like Citigroup and US Bank Tower towering above you. There does not exist a moment where I wanted my digital camera more. OMG. So many excellent potential pictures to be taken there. Next time! Only thing though, the garden area is filled w/ homeless people just chillin w/ their newspapers scattered all over the place. Sad. They should stop a few of these fountains & sell off one of the artworks hanging from above the escalators and buy these guys some tents.
On the way out of the library parking structure, I couldn't figure out how to pay! My atm card got stuck inside the machine because I think I entered it upside down. It kept going in and out until finally it stopped coming out. A mexican attendant came to the rescure, opened up the machine and I was on my way. Whew.
For the trip home, I didn't take the 10 Freeway. I felt adventurous and took local roads that I never took before. I passed by China town, Abraham Lincoln Highschool and ended up somewhere near Hungtington & Atlantic Blvd, where the In-and-Out is. LOL Wasted so much gas for feeling oddly adventurous. I stretched a easy 15 mintute ride home into a 45 minute one.
Since I was there anways, I stopped by a karaoke shop on Main St. to check their daytime pricing. OMG so expensive like 24/hour?! wth.. that $3/hr shop on Sawtelle is so cheap in comparison. I can't wait to go try it tomorrow!!! Oh, overall I like the Santa Monica Public Library better. The atmosphere there is so much more chill and the sitting area is nicer and more comfortable. Girls are cuter at SMPL too.
PS: I really love music. Listening to it powers me up like nothing else. Dancing to music feels so good. God, thank you for music.

Wow, the Los Angeles Central Library looks pretty cool. Do you have pix of the Santa Monica one? I need to check them out. Cool post!
I'm so glad you went to Central Library! =)!
hahaa, and lots of people have trouble finding out how to pay. You should have told me you were going so that I could give you some advice.
that route from LA to Huntington/Atlantic shouldn't take 45 minutes long.
... unless you got lost.
phat! lets go K after blading next time! i'll rehearse some B.I.G lyrics during my hawaii trip to prep...lol
thx for the k song. but its not the one i heard in ur pimp ride past sunday. this one is good too!
the la central library is a beautiful building w/ beautiful architecture on the interior, too, but it's just too big for me. one time i was there and i had to hunt down this book from one floor to the next, to the next. that did it for me since i was wearing some ridiculous heels. but man...escalators in a library...that was shocking to me. if i win the lottery, there's for sure going to be an escalator in my house.
i don't know what katakana is but yea, the font's supposed to look like japanese characters.
holy photo blog today. i love that wayans shows up day after day in your entries. it's such a funny photo, it should be like your signature.
i love the library. they just opened a brand new one downtown here, and it is glorious. of course, due to funding cuts, we might have to close it on mondays soon. which prompts an angry "WTF!!!!!!!!" from me.
central library is the best. i used to go there all the time with my mom b/c she liked to read so much. i would find a book, sit down in a chair and fall asleep reading. good times
You are in my neighborhood again! You shoulda called me for lunch. Except my lunch hour is only from 12 to 1. I sometimes go to the library then. The children's room on the second floor makes me feel like I'm at Hogwarts.
yeah, that's why you gotta luv dem libraries.
