netgear wgr614v9 problem resolved
problem: i had an internet connection, but some of the webpages weren’t loading and all jpegs uploaded were corrupted. using xp, wired connection.
solution: the automatic firmware upgrade wasn’t detecting the latest firmware version. i went to netgear.com and manually downloaded the latest firmware version for wgr614v9. i re-flashed the firmware, and now the problems have been resolved. i can upload pictures without the images becoming garbled, corrupted, distorted.
the problem is resolved without adjusting the mtu. leave it at 1500.
the problem is resolved without disabling spi. keep it on.firmware upgraded to: WGR614v9-V1.2.24_37.0.35NA.chk
i think this might actually be a downgrade because what doesn’t make sense is that the original firmware version number was more advanced than this one. but, on the netgear website, it is listed as the most recent. wth right? this is why the router could not detect a newer firmware because the factory installed one was maybe numbered incorrectly. v1.2.6 or something.
2 days! to figure this out.
first i thought it was a browser issue, tcp/ip, dhcp, windows xp issue, maybe it had to do with gmail or xanga? a virus? spyware? downloaded spybot search and destroy… perhaps i have to reinstall windows? omg…
last place to check was the router because it was brand new and shouldn’t be causing me problems.
oh well, hope this helps someone out there.
